English Premier League ( Football )

Not sure how many follow this but football is one of the most interested sports in the Europe- the reason for penning this was the fact Manchester United the club which I follow won the title after a gap of two years. The league has twenty clubs and they meet twice through the year-- once at home and once away-- the winner gets three points and a draw one-- the league starts in July and runs till end of May-- So a gruelling season -- Matches are played on week ends and there are record attendances to watch the matches-- Each stadium can hold up to 75,000 spectators and they are full and tickets are sold out well in advance- The quality of the game is very high and players from all over the world are bought in by the clubs and paid well too-- (Wayne Rooney , star striker for Man U is just 23 or even less and earns GBP 140,000 a week)-
I also see some games on our NFL ( India ) and the quality is pathetic although it is improving with influx of foreign players.. The clubs are public -- some are listed on the stock exchange as well - Chelsea which finished second is owned by Ramon Abrahomvich a Russian oil Billionaire-- Thaksin the ousted PM of Thailand is in the thick of rumours to be bidding for buying one of the clubs-- So lot of corporate interest in the sport and the club- Sadly no Indian plays for any of the English Clubs although Baichung Butia our star striker played for a season with Bury FC a fourth division side at the EPL program -- So a long way to go for us
Cheers
Sri
