The Australian Tennis Open

Justin Henin missed out what Kim Clijsters did at the US open but was very close to winning the title at the recently concluded Australian tennis open . Clijsters came back from a break and then as a unseeded player at the event, went on to win the US open in late 2009. And Henin could have done the same at the Australian open ..She reached the finals playing great tennis through the two weeks but was overpowered by Serena in the final in a absorbing contest that faded away in the third and final set as Serena displayed her physical strength on the court . But full credit to Henin for coming back and playing the way she did.

In the men's singles , Britain's wait to see a Grand Slam champion will continue to wait . Pre finals , the hype was set on Andy Murray to overpower Federer and become the first British Champion since 1936 to win a Grand Slam event. Federer also acknowledged that Murray had the legs to beat him ( Not sure if Federer set Murray with this for the match !! ). But in the final which was gripping as it could be , Federer played aggressive tennis , pushing the Scott back and took a commanding two sets to love lead. Then in the third as Murray regrouped , Federer found that extra in him to close out the match in straight sets. The third set was nerve wrecking as both Federer and Murray had chances to win and made some errors on shot selection that prolonged the third set .
For Federer this was his 16th grand Slam title which puts him above Peter Sampras whose record he equalled last year by winning the Wimbledon. This makes him a strong contender for a greatest ever tennis player of our times--
I had some great observations of the final as I watched the support camps of Federer and Murray. While Federer's camp was quite , the Murray camp was vociferous pumped fists , looked at Murray with lot of eye contact support and kept egging him on . It was clear that Murray needed more than his tennis skill to get past the Genius ( yes, the familiar banner for Federer with the caption " Maestro at work , Silence please was up on display at the stands ). It also looked to them that Federer was the underdog and that he had to do more to win .Federer was his usual cool and his racquet did the talking . Many times support teams may put pressure and I think this happened to Murray as well. Murray said at the end " I can cry like Federer but not play like him ". This was a understatement for Murray had played some amazing tennis to get to the final. One needs to be prepared for the big stage delivery and Murray was not and choked and Federer the cool champion he is made most of this factor and I thought played aggressively in the first two sets to set up his win.

The Special Republic Day Greeting that I received and so happy to see the message ....

This was the text I got and I felt happy and elated to get this -- it was a surprise but a pleasant one and very thought provoking
Happy Republic day and wish you many more happy returns. Thank you for your contribution towards good governance.

The second line really prompted me to think as to what I have done for good governance . Very difficult to list out .. I am so thankful to this thoughtful person ( who leaves comments in my blogs ) for provoking my thoughts on this important day for any Indian . I also watched the movie " Gandhi" on the Television and what a connection it was to this thought - Long way to go but very important to keep these thoughts on what we do and what we stand for and what we could let others reflect on -
Great feelings to carry from this simple remark
