Random Rumblings

I went through two incidents on Diwali Day when most things just gets shut down – Interesting experience –  On a normal day ,  things that could get fixed so easily with no effort,  can turn in to a frustrating experience on a day when the whole town celebrates..  Incident 1 : First over lunch , my daughter had the wires of her braces come off half way—She was uncomfortable –The dental clinic that she goes normally is a 5 minute drive—We went there and it was shut down totally… The problem was not urgent but had to be fixed – I just kept driving along the roads looking for all Dental clinics and whatever we could find,  were closed. I tried the mobile phone to look up at more dental clinics in and around and it is at this point , the connection will not work .  With no luck in finding Dental Clinics , went to the closest Hospital that did Day Surgeries at this place. That was deserted as well . We are asked to go to Emergency , where the duty doct...

The Change that comes with New age generation

The summer is always a tough challenge on the water resources at our flats. Every year , just to prepare for the summer , we desilt the well (we do have a well in our flat ), clean the bore and also all the incoming water pipes . And in spite of doing all this , there will be  a day when the metro water will not show up and your bore well motor packs up on  the same day-- leaving the residents with no water to use. This year , when we had the issue come up  , we got  a new guy ( highly recommended by the next door flat Secretary ). He manage to fix the  issue but it was short lived. My security guys were anyway unhappy with the new guy. They kept complaining that the water was not flowing from the bore well as before. And the said he will biding his time to claim the daily wage when he could have finished the work sooner ! So when the issue surfaced again , I called our old guy back. But he was in semi-retirement -- he said his son would handle but he wil...

Crowds Missing -- The Difference -

Chepauk : I try to get in and watch when Tamilnadu plays at home in the Ranji matches. This year was no different- TN was playing Saurastra and I found the weekend a perfect time to get in and watch the match and more so watch Cheteswar Pujara bat. It is a different experience to go watch the Ranji match. Totally different compared to the IPL or the Test matches. No entry fees -No security check – – Just one stand opened up for the public. No noise – no Flags-no Giant screen – You could carry your eatables – water – camera and so on and plenty of parking. Just the opposite of what happens when an IPL match is staged. On this Saturday , there were about 50 people with some families who turned up for the Pujara treat. There was class all over this guy. Playing with a straight bat , he could play the horizontal shots as well. If he could do well in the forthcoming South African , we have the replacement for the Wall – Dravid . ( Pujara is still batting at close of play – Poor TN...

Alms -- Demands and Pressures

This has been going on for some time . Finally got to pen this down and share. I visit temples regularly and most of them are crowded and so you get in , pray and get out without getting noticed and not chased for alms. But not the one at Madhya Kailash. I go to this temple before I get to work ( once a week ) and at the time, I get in, the temple is empty and I get in and get out easily . Things worked well for me till about six , seven months ago. As I stepped out of the temple , a man came rushing towards me and asked for alms. I gave him a 5 rupee coin. He was not happy. He said I have to give him money that would be good enough to buy him his lunch . I offered another fiver . No , he was not happy. Ten bucks could not buy him lunch. He demanded at least twenty bucks in a pleading manner ( yes , demanded in a pleading manner ). This became a habit. Every week , as my car turned in to OMR, I could see him with gleaming eyes. And nothing less than Twenty rupees will suffice him fo...
