Weeks of Connecting with the needy

I was happy with my week end work-- Just not getting away from work place but a few things that I did and heard and saw made me feel pleased. Over the past two week ends , I reconnected with Charitable Organisations that I used to frequent. For the past six months have not been able to do so due to various reasons.

Some notable things that made me happy

Sri Matha Trust

This Trust does great work for cancer patients who are outpatients and come for treatment at the VHS Adayar. The Trust with the help of various patrons provides accommodation for these patients who come from far flung places for treatment and do not have the money to get housing / food during the treatment period . Accommodation and food is free for these patients through the cycle of their treatment . The Trust also drops patients from its place to the VHS and picks them back . So timely is this service for so many people who cannot afford treatment.

Things that thrilled me-
One of my fellow Rotarian whom I introduced to this place became a patron , paying a couple of Lakh rupees.
Another common friend mentioned , he wanted to donate his old furniture ( not sell ). I connected him to the Trust and this friend arranged transport and dropped good furniture to the Trust . They were most needy at the reception -
Happy to note that there are people to step in and help---

Netaji Mercy Home

I was thrilled to visit this home that we are in touch for the last five years or so and catch up with Vignesh -- Why ? Vignesh completed his Plus 2 examinations .Not only did he pass but he scored close to 80 % with an outstanding 96 % in Accounting. Vignesh is a shy person. He is going to join for his Commerce Degree course but he wants to do his Chartered Accountancy-- Great thing to aspire and with so many people who are CA's around us , it is just the guidance that he needs. Mind you , he has done so well in a environment that may not just help him in his studies.. His infrastructure , support system , presence of other small kids in the orphanage all are hindrances. He has overcome that due to sheer hard work , focus and a mind that aims for the best.. People have already connected with him to help him pursue not only his graduation course but help realise his dreams of being a Chartered Accountant. Muthukumar and his wife who are the caretakers of the home deserve praise for bringing up these kids with careful consideration.
One more reason to be happy was with the help of a like minded colleague , repairs were made to the water purification system . Non working of this had forced the Home to buy water and that was not a favourable financial option for any orphanage.. The water purification system was incidentally donated by contributions through women colleagues in my organisation

The joy of sharing and making others happy has no comparisons

The Government Children Hospital at Egmore

I had gone through with my fellow Rotarian to explore donating a printer to support a equipment . What I saw there made me happy and excited. There were people who did not look like those who do regular housekeeping work at the hospital . As we chatted , they told us that they were from " Chennai Social Service " and they had the task of keeping the hospital clean. Challenging indeed to keep a Govt. Hospital clean. The day's work was to clean the water tank. They had a schedule for the entire year and was quite impressed with their interest . What a challenge to undertake and make it happen.

Just goes to show-
There is time available .Plenty of opportunities to serve -- It is just that the minds need to meet and take up the task
