The Test Cricket and Oh Boy -- Did India not do well ?

The current series in Srilanka had a muted start. Srilanka won the first test hands down and then India rallied through their batting in the second test to earn a draw. The final test was a opportunity for India the current leader in the ICC test rankings to prove that they still deserve to be at the top. The test matches have become some sort of a slow paced after the T20 and the One day format. If one concluded that watching this was not worth it, the final test made some bold statements on the survival of the test format world wide.
Each day was intense battle , with the pendulum swinging from one side to other and at the end of the Day Three , India held a small advantage. On day four by lunch time , they had the Lankans in a trance and by end of the day , Lankans returned the favour. I thought India had no chance at the end of day four . I witnessed day five ball by ball as slowly India came out of the shackles and won the match , squared the series and retained their World No 1 ranking. That was good..
Both teams had their chances but India used them better than the Lankans at the right time. It was puzzling why Lanka did not use Malinga and Mendis in the first session of play on Day five .. Using both their best bowlers could have been a advantage but Sanga choose not to and the battle was lost in that first one hour of play on day five. Laxman played a solid knock . Full of poise and compact and stroking the ball ( not hitting them ) was a class act.
Overall with all the bowling limitations that India had , it was a good result.
Some gains
Suresh Raina --His baptism to test cricket may end the test career of Yuvaraj --- Yuvi may just be a T20 and One day player ?
The Old warhorses -- Sachin , Laxman continue to do well -- Sachin is 37 , plays as if he is 20. VVS is 35 - he has not lost any of his magic touch and timing- Dravid - he shaped up well but did not score
Sehwag -- The batter and now a good bowler
Opportunities
The entire bowling dept needs a look at . The fact Ajantha Mendis scored 80 tells it tale on our bowlers -- They just lacked imagination bowling to this tail ender whose previous best was 27 !!

The Humour Club

I was all set for this month as the guest speaker evinced a great interest to attend. Having heard her in the past , there was no way to give this event a miss.
Revathy Sankaran is one of a kind that you may never find. She has the uncanny knack to manage the stage , the audience and all that happens around her. She is versatile , multi linguist ( helps her singing ) , can talk to the crowd and engage them for long hours with great sense of humour . Although the topic was select songs of the 1960's and 1970's , she made it so interesting for everyone ..The audience sang with her , laughed with her , clapped with her and it was fantastic to see one person hold around close to 900 odd people in a trance of laughter. She also talked about family based value systems that were disappearing. Also various insights in to the how the songs were shot , the artistes involved, their acting skills etc as she described each song that was played for the audience .
She had her own skit to do as well and so a laughter filled event for close to two hours ..
A sample video should give you a taste of her calibre

I have known Revathy for over 30years. A multi talented creative genius. An awesome performer! If I remember right she performed the `twinle twinkle` song at the silver jubilee celebrations of the Inner wheel club of Madras South 22years ago. Inspite of age she has not lost her verve and vigour!
