Cricket-- India versus England ODI Result

I was waiting for the past two weeks before I wrote this post with immense satisfaction and the result of the third ODE was just wonderful to savour and so this happy post !

As Dhoni smashed Tim Bresnan over for a four that signalled the India's third successive win in the current ODI series, the crowd at Mohali launched in to Bhangra and with that the series was in the bags of the Indian team. Too much was spoken about England's win in the English Summer, couple of months ago and I think this sport is a great leveller and England are back to the ground.

Virat Kohli said before the start of the series that we ( India ) did very well in England in the ODI but were done in by the Weather , Duckworth Lewis method and dame luck ! How true .. The weather gods did not intervene in Hyderabad , Delhi and Mohali and so no Duckworth Lewis and the luck factor simply went away from the English. Of course , the weather ( hot ) did influence the English performance ….

Dhoni went through a lean patch as Captain and that is about it . It prevailed in the Series against England and rubbed on to the Championship 20 20 league that had the defending Champion CSK ( the team that Dhoni lead ) knocked out in the round robin. But mercifully , Dhoni's magic has revived itself. It has just not helped with Dhoni, in leading the team but his batting has been as good as it was when he came in to international cricket. Powered drives , the helicopter shot were back in action and the ball simply out ran the chasing fielders to the boundary. We need Dhoni to carry on.

England simply did not have their heart and soul in the matches. They lost rhythm , focus and fielded below sub par. Of course , the absence of Stuart Broad , Jimmy Anderson and Chris Tremlett did matter but would they have been effective on Indian soil is something that is debatable. England continue to be the team that does not walk the talk …. The climbdown on standards have been dramatic.

I wanted to write about Virat Kohli -- I followed this guy ever since he played for Delhi in a Ranji trophy match and despite loosing his father in the middle of the match , he continued to bat for Delhi , engaged himself in a match saving stand and then retired to attend to his father's funeral. One could debate as to what this young man was trying to do. But he did take that decision to bat on and then leave the field when his team was safe and then get to his family. It was great commitment and decision making skill at that age.
He shone as the India U 19 captain that won the world title under his captaincy. Many from that team are doing well at the national level but it has been Virat who has moved a notch above all of them. Here is a cricketer who if continues his batting potential , keeps his temperament and his involvement with the proceedings is a Indian captain for the future. We need leaders to be ready when the seniors retire - Don't we ? Time will tell us If Virat is the guy for the Indian Captaincy candidate for the future

This series victory seems sweeter after the disappointment in England. Guess we had got used to the concept of series wins under Dhoni, the debacle in England just got back our anxiety. Series win with the young brigade augers well for future!!!

A victory against a team after getting wounded by them is a double sweeter; Dhoni continued his consistency with the bat that he left in England.

On Virat, he has to get more matured and need to temper down. He also has a tinge of arrogance and that may affect him.
