The lawyer story of the century --
from Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
A lawyer bought a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then insured them against fire and other disasters. Within a month, having smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet having made even his first premium payment on the policy, the lawyer filed a claim against the insurance company. In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost "in a series of small fires."
The insurance company refused to pay, citing the obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal fashion. The lawyer sued.. And WON! (The best is yet to come!)
Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance company that the claim was frivolous. Nevertheless, the lawyer held a policy from the company, which had guaranteed insurance against fire, without defining what is "unacceptable fire" and was obligated to pay the claim!
Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer for his loss of the cigars lost in the "fires". (The best is yet to come!)
NOW, FOR THE BEST PART...
After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! With his own insurance claim and testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was sentenced to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.
This is a true story and was the First Place winner in the recent ‘Criminal Lawyers Award Contest!’
Such things happen only in the U.S. of A!

School day at Vivekananda Vidyalya - Thiruvottiy

I was invited to be chief Guest ( ! ) at the school day celebrations on 9th Feb -- There were two Chief guests including me ( the other was Ashok Jayaram MD of Rotrok Controls India )-- We had donated around 10 PC's to his school last May and I was keen to know how good they put them to use-- They were to be part of the existing computer lab but to my surprise, these have been put in to all the pre KG and LKG classrooms -- With the 21 Inch monitor , the kids were using the computer to listen to Nursery rhymes and letters of the alphabet ( Downloads from websites , Pebble brand , Apple tree ) -- The school wants to ensure each class room has a PC and students use it-- The school's results are also outstanding-- Last 10 years 100 % results for 10th and 12th standards-- Also the school staff are tech savvy and the 60 minute cultural that followed the school reports and speeches by the Chief Guests and Prize distribution was amazing-- No mikes etc., the entire program ( drama on Veervanchi , dances pf Kashmir, Andra Gujarat, Sivathandavam , Folk dance etc., ) was taped off line on to a CD and the kids had to just perform-- The CD played the voice part and so everyone could hear them -- There were around 700=850 people that turned up for this pre primary school day ( Pre kg to 5th standard ) -- the school also has a unique way of preparing students for the 10th and 12th standard-- The exams for 9th and 11th are held in March and the curriculum begins in April for promoted students-- there is a summer break only in May and hence the classes for 10th and 12th are started ahead of time-- the school also has a great library and is very neat and clean-- lots of metrics in the Principal room--
Was wondering if I missed out something in my school days
