Quotable Quotes of the week
For people of my position , it helps demystify the title and clarify what it is I do and what it is important to me -- Queen Rania First Lady of Jordan in social networking sites.
Mayawati is a corporate illiterate. She is stupid. - Amar Singh SP leaker on the Uttar Pradesh CM
The BJP needs a surgery or a chemotherapy treatment - Mohan Bhagwat - RSS chief
I don't have anybody working for me on the blog. After writing , i edit it. that is not difficult as i am not a good writer -- Amitabh Bachchan Actor
The Beach Cricket at Marina -- the ban on playing cricket
I am not going to say whether the ban is right or wrong -- But looking at the media reports , it looks like the ban is only on playing cricket at the Marina beach and other sports can be played -This is a boon for other sports to be played on the beach and that is welcome as well !!
From my perspective i enjoyed some intense games at the Marina beach not now but probably twenty years back -- It is great fun to play any game on the beach and beach cricket has its quota of fun, excitement and what i call " adjusting to the playing conditions" - . Every Sunday , we used to land up at around 6:30 AM and do nothing till around 7 AM -- Earlier before the gang( read team ) came in , one of the team members had the assignment to book the "best pitch" available -- Between 6:30 AM to 7AM , our leader ( read Captain ) will wait and then do a deal for a what is called a " bet " match . This is very common on the entire stretch and all matches more or less start at the same time with different set of rules , boundaries, fielders all over the place-
Playing in the windy conditions is a great challenge for the following reasons :
To any batsman to keep focussed on his pitch ,to identify the bowler who is bowling to him , identify the opposite side fielder , survive and yet make runs--
To the bowler -- not sure which Pitch he is bowling at --
To the fielder -- to chase and catch the right ball !!
There all sort of instructions from the captain-- Mind you after all this , there are specialists who do all of these well and are heroes for each team !!
Passion runs high -- Other challenges include handling the rising Sun and the wind-- the batsmen might have had a full blooded drive that one will think will clear the boundary ( this keeps changing according to the fielding team ) but the wind from the sea will bring the air borne ball back and some fielder will catch it -- Exciting is the right word to describe the Sunday morning -- The number of teams and the pitches made out ( rather booked ) are many and amidst all these chaos , people , noise , madness, there is entertainment -- Just like the Traffic on the roads !!
So my view , I enjoyed the beach cricket at the Marina and enjoyed ( do not play now ) watching till a couple of weeks ago...
I am not sure how this intense week end activity was a spoil sport to the beautification program of the Marina Beach and how it affected the "walkers" in the morning -- May be we are becoming so polished that we cannot coexist. Imagine banning all the pavement vendors in the Pondy Bazzar / Tnagar area during Diwali for they affect shopping and the crowd-- I am sure all of us enjoy the hustle and puzzle of the crowds during the festive season -- We do not stop shopping , Do we ?
