Thanks to my Lovely team -- You made Diversity inclusion a great success

Being at my organization is a great blessing – for several reasons and one of them is in terms of the organization  promoting Diversity and Inclusion –
My company facilitates creating a diverse and inclusive environment all the time. One of the things that our Human Resources team has been helping with is to see possibilities of hiring candidates with diverse backgrounds and also candidates with physical/other  challenges .  When there was an opportunity that opened up in one of the teams that work for me , I requested the team to consider hiring a candidate who was challenged .
As they went through the process of hiring , they came across a talented individual but the person was challenged in terms of hearing and speaking . The team wanted this person on board and what they did truly shows how much they value diversity and being inclusive . They looked at the profile of the job and then eliminated all those tasks that involved interacting over phone and any conversation oriented. They added tasks that need not have an interaction .Having completed the rearrangement , they were ready to on board. But does it end with that ? It is here , the team Went Further and made the changes within themselves as a team and made the incoming resource so comfortable.

The new resource having been on board for over two weeks , I wanted to say hello and check out as to how she was doing. The meeting with me that lasted for close to ten minutes was fabulous . The resource came in with her team leader and supervisor . It was not at all easy for me to converse . But the team leader made the entire conversation very easy. The team leader had in the two weeks picked up most of the sign language that the new Resource uses to converse. Just looking at the way my questions were being relayed back , I thought they had been working together for a long time . The responses from the new resource  --how she was proud to be at my Organization ,and that  it was a great opportunity for her to prove her skills , her family was so thrilled at her being employed ,how the team was making her comfortable at the work place and also supporting her with transport logistics and so on was just heartwarming and overwhelming to hear her out through the team leader. The entire team was doing all that they could to make this resource do well .

I was so proud of the team . Policies  can be in place but it is  the co-employees that imbibe these and can either make it a success or not . In this case , the team just made it an outstanding success by embracing Diversity and Inclusiveness operationally

If we talk to people in a language they understand, that goes to their head. If we make efforts to talk to them in their own language, that goes to their heart and they are sure to surprise us. Here is one example. You are blessed to have a team like this.

Very True Sri.

We have a member with Asperger's syndrome in our team - he has been on the journey with us for close to 1.5 years .
His teamleader and the team made all the difference to make it a success, embracing with all the positivity and Wow - it has been an awesome experience for those working with this team.

Awesome Sri...

The efforts taken by her co-workers to make her comfortable is so inspiring - Inclusiveness is something that all of us can practice in our own small ways to make it a better world for everyone
