Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from the Formula 1 next season-- the announcement was done in typical Schmi and Ferrari style-- there were talks about the announcement before the start of the Italian Grand Prix this week end-- Schmi won the race and then in the post press conference announced the retirement -- He was emotional but composed and clear-- the race itself was won in the traditional Ferrari style-- Start the race and be close to the leader-- As soon as the race leader pits ( for fuel and tyre change ), do fast laps and then pit and out do the rivals in the pits in terms of timing it takes to refuel and do the tyre change. Schmi did this with brilliance and once the race lead was his at the first of the pit stops, there was no drama and the race was won by him. Alonso of Renault ran a charged race but blew the engine and went out..Schmi by winning at Monza has cut the lead of Alonso to just 2 points and with three races to go, it is going to interesting weekends.. Schmi's retirement will rob the F1 of his glamour-- He was dynamic, strategic, team builder and a fighter in adversity and of all flawless in execution of plans..
I told my wife that next year , I may not follow F1 due to Schmi;s retirement-- She said " she was glad that she could get weekends of my time rather than following the car "-- She was watching me closely to see if I broke down on hearing Schmi;s announcement --
Another inspiring legend also retired-- Martina Navratilova retired a month short of her 50th birthday ( patti as per Venkat Standard ) and after winning the US tennis Open Mixed doubles title-
She earlier retired in 1994 , came back in 2001 and now again ( not sure how long ) -- At that age , she played brilliant tennis and was not a liability to her partner in the mixed doubles team--
