Quotable Quotes of the week

Law and order is very bad as the government is patronising criminals. But we have dealt with criminals before.. Mayawati BSP Leader

You cannot complain of high interest rates as well as high inflation rate. The former is increased to bring down the latter. We are following a consistent policy- P.Chidambaram Finance Minister of India

People ask me how I can be Chief Minister and still write poems but I ask them " Am I not human " ? - Narendra Modi Gujarat CM

It is an unpardonable offence. There is no need for Narayanamoorthy to make a statement that instrumental version of the National Anthem had to be played to avoid embarrassment to Foreigners-- M.P. Prakash karnataka Home Minister

Bollywood is special to me. It is there in my retirement plans. But I need to be very sure about the projects I pick up Brett lee Australian fast bowler

Jharkand
Cops at a training center in Hazaribagh district take an interesting oath every morning : that they would not extort money from rickshaw pullers, auto drivers and handcart pullers. Authorities say the effort is to change the image of the cops.. Looks a good beginning

UP

A bunch of youth from the Kesri sect in varanasi decided to be different when it came to selection of their life partners. Prospective brides and grooms cat walked down the ramp for the benefit of relatives and matches were quick fixed on the spot. While the boys and girls found it refreshing experience, the organisers said it was the best way to avoid dowry. Well , good reason for a novel show

Coonoor
Had a wonderful time with family-- Choose Coonor because it was relatively less crowded than Ooty and also that Citibank where my BIL works had a fantastic guest house or transit home as it is called by them- Four huge bedrooms. wash room area of around 13X10 ( can easily be a bedroom in our crouchy apts ) and enough living space room and TV room and dining room made the stay cosy-- I realised how much time one can find when you are not working---
Coonoor does not have too many hotels -- there is Taj garden retreat and that is about the only big star hotel I saw-- Lot of growth in the town-- All banks are there and all of them have set up ATM's -- ICICI is present in a big way ( no surprise ).. They have the bank , Prudential , Lombard and a DSA carting home and estate loans.
One significant thing from the trip was the travel by the Toy train as it is called-- Narrow gauge lines where the engine pushes the coaches from the back and each Small compartment has a Guard who flags at every corner ( just to indicate the track is clear )-- It is a experience to go by this train-- None of the locals use the train as it takes longer than the bus ( Ooty to Mettupalyam ) -- Coonoor to Ooty takes around one hour and ten minutes and the fare is RS 11-- they should charge more for the experience that they give-- Do not miss this when you go to Ooty/Coonnor next time--
One incident to write about how the town is small and people oriented and relies on trust is this-- We booked tickets for the Toy train on a wrong date and wanted to cancel-- When we reached the counter , the system was down-- the lady at the counter asked us to give the tickets and take the money the next day-- She also said that she would be on vacation and her colleague will have the receipt and the money-- We were not sure-- With so many people walking in and out , we thought the money is as good as gone-- Next day , we meekly came to the ticket counter and told the man that we had given tickets for cancellation-- the man opened the drawer took the receipt and gave us the money back-- No verification of identity etc., -- Not sure if this will happen elsewhere.. No problems for us , we got the refund..
Great customer service if you ask me
