Humour Club
I had missed the previous two months meeting due to travel -- This one for this month was a great session of humour and paid tribute to Director Sridhar as well - it was strange for a humour club to pay homage to a director who passed away recently but the topic of humour and Sridhar are closely twined that it made lot of sense -
The open joke session had a new young performer -- Srinidhi a class two student delivered a joke that ran all the letters of the alphabet-- it was a difficult one to remember the situation and run through all the letters of the alphabet -- the compere kept referring her to Shravana ( PR Babu's daughter ) during the course of the session and at one point the little one who was in the first row shouted out that she was not Sharavana but Srinidhi -- I called PR babu and told him about the impact that his daughter has had on the program and the crowd --
Sridhar was talked about by Chitralya Gopu who was his assistant and friend of 65 years ( yes 65 years of friendship and this was amazing to note ). Few select comedy scenes from Kathalika Nerumillai ( Nagesh- Sacchu - balayaih ) was played on a DVD -- it was clear that the film that was done in 1963/64 could still ripple the crowd and what was also noted was the clean comedy ( No double meaning , beating up one another to create humour ( ? )-- Even in the song sequence that was played , we noticed that through the song , the hero did not touch the heroine at all , yet it was love Duet song -- Sridhar had that uncanny touch and Gopu walked us down memory lane on what the man was -- Fast , highly energetic , creative , can apply thought to mind and not afraid of failure
The other person who was invited to talk was Kumari Sacchu ( of course she may be close to sixty but she is Kumari Sacchu still )-- Sacchu talked of how she got in the film Kathalika Nerumillai -- Gopu sold the story to her Patti indicating there were three heroines -- Of course Sachu was the comedy heroine pairing for Nagesh -- She talked of how this changed her career from being a heroine to a comedy artiste and never regretted the change
The guest speaker was Barathi Baskar VP Citibank and a skilful orator and public debate speaker- the topic was Penn and being Barathiyar's birth eve-- Barathi spoke with lot of realism and context to today-- Was a fiery speech as she attacked the movie makers of today for their vulgarity and way of portyal.
The meeting went on for nearly 150 minutes but never was there a dull moment nor the packed audience tried to walk off -- More than 900 people would have turned on a Sunday morning for this and stayed till the end-
One more time -- this is the best and cost effective option to take out stress -- Costs INR 100 to be a member for 12 meetings and Inr 1000 for a,life member !!

Will the event happen in 2009 ? This is a serious question after Honda pulled out from the event citing the downturn in the auto industry and the financial crisis -- Honda may have been the first to do this but there will be others to follow suit-- The decision by Honda would have shocked their team ( all F1 teams have a huge support staff and run independently - Honda had a $ 300 Mils US annual Budget )-- Will be interesting ..
