Quotable Quotes of the week

It is unfair to make comparisons. I have never believed in comparisons, because I respect every individual- Sachin Tendulkar

People need the capacity to listen to others, listen to God. Only in this way does someone become himself - Pope Benedict XVI

India is my motherland. I can't hate my motherland. But India rejected me . MF Husain Artist

People are bound to flock to Mumbai. Hindustan belongs to all - Asha Bhosle Singer. Not sure how the Senas are going to react to this comment.

Once we are aware that God resides in us and not some wherein oblivion, we wouldn't even dream of engaging in violence of any kind - Rekha Actress

I don't want to be a one year wonder - Karun Chandkok India's Formula one driver for Hispania Racing.

Not sure where this one came from -- It is easy to search God rather than to search for hidden cameras-- Swami Nithyananda -- the latest Godman to find himself in a sex imbroglio-- There is truth in what he says ? !!!

Formula One Season 2010

Finally the 2010 season started -- Lot of new things to get excited about -- Some key ones-
Three new teams - Lotus , Virgin and Hispania racing . Lotus from Malaysia comes back to F1 racing after 16 years.
Seven Time formula one Champion Schumacher makes a comeback after a three year break at the age of 41 ( Biggest excitement to me )
Two Ex world Champions in the same team ( McLaren has Hamilton and Button -- need to see as to who will get more support within the team ! )
Former World Champion has no team to drive for ( Kimi Raikonen after he underperformed in 2009 ,had no takers )
Ferrari looks fighting fit is year with their car ( they have a former World Champion Alonso racing for them as well )
An Indian Driver is one of the drivers as well and that is a big deal - Karun Chandok becomes the second Indian driver behind the wheel of a Formula one car after Narain Karthikeyan .

Hispania racing for whom Karun drives, managed to put the car up hours before the qualification race at the First race . Karun test drove the car in the qualification race and that must be unique .Other teams had good testing on their cars well ahead of the season

New Fuel change rules . Cars have to run on the same fuel load , so no refuelling stops . Only tyre change allowed .

New metrics on the pit stop change - instead of the tyre and fuel change time , the metric is to measure the time it took for the car to enter the pit lane and exit the pit lane ( things change every where and so does the metric to measure them )

New Point system ( Adopted from Moto GP-
Some highlights from the Bahrain GP. Vettel of Red Bull qualified first and lead for more than two thirds of the race. He lost power then and was set up by the Ferraris and the McLaren of Hamilton . Vettel finished fourth behind Alonso , Massa and Hamilton in that order. The track is a dry one for the reason it does not give too many overtaking opporuntities.Schumacher finished sixth and that was creditable for him . To come back after three years in to competitive racing and finish on the points table was fabulous .
Of the new comers , Lotus Racing looks promising. Their cars were still running ( two laps behind but still running ) when the race was over. They have Trulli and Kovalienen , very experienced drivers. Karun Chandok crashed out in the second lap while his team mate Bruno Senna ( nephew of the legendary Ayrton Senna ) followed him seven laps later.

The excitement for the new season has just began-
PS : I heard Karun Chandkok speak post the race - While it is everyone's desire to complete the race and see if they can win , Karun said that in the next race , the target is to complete 20 laps !!Poor Karun !!

Tatkal ? Only at Railways -- No way

I recently heard from one of my Rotary friends that a Doctor in his locality has started a Tatkal scheme to see patients. Wow !! For normal visitors without appointment , the wait could be close to five hours , If you have a regular appointment , may be three hours. You want to see the Doctor quickly , enrol on to his Tatkal scheme and you can see him as the next patient . Of Course , Railway tatkal cost is cheaper ….
You can be innovative , if you have the demand . Understand that the doctor is a busy man and he does not want to disappoint seeing his patients !!

Vishranthi
There was a novel programme that Our Rotary member Mr Chari conjured up for this NGO which houses only elders. Understanding their pulse was important for a succesful visit to this NGO . And our Rotarian Chari got it spot on !

What would people in the age group 75++ enjoy.. Not the current movies or songs etc.,They would , of course enjoy things of their time. Understanding this , Rtn Chari put up a scintillating 90 minute video clips from movies of the 1960's and 1970's … There were hit songs , comedy clips and so on from the past.
Chennai as it stood at that time has changed dramatically today. The elders who enjoyed the show would have thought about all the good times they had during their times with their kith and kin. Right way to touch and make inmates happy.
Rtn Chari is a heritage culture lover and does make it his special trait to not only preserve them but share them . His good connections helped get movies with clean prints .
The program was on Sunday at the Vishranthi -See link to learn more about vishranthi

I like your entry on Formula one racing. I stopped following it many years ago and your write up was a good refresher!

The usual thrill seem to be missing in F1 racing this year.

Cars qualifying in row 2 or 3 with a heavier load and coming back strongly on the race day, which we call as fuel & the pit-stop strategy, and this usually decides the race, didnt exist and it more looked like a march-past, with no or little over-taking.

Also the cars have considerably slowed down by nearly half a minute per lap. It usually takes 1min 30 sec to take an F1 car around the Shakir circuit but it averaged nearly 2 min on the race day which is the normal time during typical wet conditions.

I am not sure if this is going to create excitement as in the past. But this is just the 1st race and let us keep the fingers crossed. Too early to comment.

The Anonymous one was Radha
I agree Radha that it may be a march past through the year but let us wait and watch -- never know -- The cars have slowed down terribly and that is not racing !!

Sri,

My Family doctor, while he was alive, practised Tatkal since 2003. He passed away in 2008. He would charge 50 Rs for Tatkal patients and 20 Rs for non tatkal patients. The tatkal patients would be sent alternately between the non Tatkal patients.

Interesting misture of subjects in your blog..Keep it going..
