The CWG and the Test Series

Quotable Quotes of the week

I may not have a place in the media space but I am certainly ensconced in the hearts of the people - Narendra Modi Gujarat Chief Minister ( well said as a Politician would )
I wear Hawai chappals because I like wearing them and not because someone says so -- Mamta Banerji Railway Minister
This is not fair. We travel all over and I can assure you we don't get to brush our teeth with mineral water - Mahesh Bhupathi on some international players pulling out of the Commonwealth games due to lack of facilities

When an elephant walks , a lot of animals bark, but the elephant keeps walking without giving much importance to the lesser animals - Virender Sehwag on his critics
Commonwealth Games is a symbol of Britain's slavery -- Baba Ramdev Spiritual leader ( read Kalmadi's )
The CWG success and the Post Mortem begins

As a event and as a participant country , India did extremely well -- more than 100 medals , finishing second among the medals tally , the fantastic opening ceremony and the closing ceremony-- the familiar phrase "all is well that ends well " seemed to be in line .. Well what happened to the huge noise that went before the games ? Was it just media that overdid it or not ?
Foot over bridge collapse , soiled bed sheets in the games village rooms , snake in the room --- all vanished .
During the games itself what I liked most was the daily press conference addressed by Mike Fennel and Kalmadi. It was interesting as they sparred at each other in a fantastic manner ( the boxing events were no match for this ). Every issue that was raised by Fennel would have a standard response from Kalmadi -- "The issue will be fixed next day" --
No crowds at the stadium -- Kalmadi would respond , they will come in tomorrow. The press conference was more eventful than any of the events itself.
Once thegames ended on a successful note , it was time to take credits for who was behind the successful conduct of the event ( The Delhi CM claims that she turned it around from shambles in to a shining event ) , someone else proclaimed that it was time for us to host the Olympics ( will Kalmadi lead the effort ? )
The Government has put in a Commission to enquire in to the irregularities -- We all know what commissions can do --
The positive side was the exposure our teams got from the event and the medals they won --
Else one more opportunity that was provided to make money to the scamsters !! And we have plenty of them … and they do their arrangemente perfectly and display great thick skin !!
These things can never change in India is my thought !!

The Whitewash on Aussies -- Created by the Tendulkar effect

Whitewash would be a misnomer. India blanked out Australia in the two test series Two is to NiL .. While the first test could have gone either way and India had the luck in their favour (There was no luck with the toss for Dhoni -- he lost the toss for a record 11th Consecutive time in Tests ). In the second test , India was a clear winner ..
If there was one person who made the difference more than the others , it was the Little Master Sachin. Fantastic milestones that he achieved .. A record 14000 runs , his 49th test Century and he is not getting young but playing young. That I see as the difference .
And the critics cannot stop their comments . Nasser Hussain , the Ex English Captain commented that Ricky Ponting was better than Sachin because he has taken up the challenge of leading Australia and also batting well , while Sachin concentrates only on his batting .. What a poor comparison ! It only spoke of the Englishman's small heart .. Not wanting to acknowledge the deeds of Sachin. In this context Sehwag's quote up above is very pertinent .
Some people cannot digest the number of centuries and the runs that Sachin is scoring . This calendar year ( 2010 ) was phenomenal in terms of the runs scoredby Scahin.. I think he has hit a purple patch and the wish is the patch continues. The likes of Nasser Hussain can continue their comment …
India is the World No1 in Tests and Sachin continues to set records.. That is the fact .

Shewag's comment is very appropriate when it comes to Sachin. He realised that his batting is more important than captaincy for India and he was prepared to accept that two years ago when Rahul said NO to captaincy. That's great leadership.. accepting that I have a weakness but let me concentrate on my strenghts and see how much I can contribute.
