Top Slip Trip
By Balaji/Venkat /Sateesh with selegation to Rajat Kohli

We (a group of 21 colleagues) went on to experience wild adventure. The adventure trip was to Mysterious place called PARIMBIKULAM Wildlife Sanctuary, which is 35 kms from Pollachi (nearest big town) - a 45-minute drive from Coimbatore. PARIMBIKULAM Wildlife Sanctuary is at the altitude of 800 Mts. and a home to various kinds of flora and fauna.
Our trip started on 18th Jan evening 9.00 P.M and we returned on 21st Jan morning 6.30 A.M. and it was a one in a lifetime experience. There are something’s which can be said but this trip was something, which only can be felt and sensed. The beautiful environment of top slip was different from this hassle bustle life, going to office, working day and night out. It is all-different like living in a wordsworthian world i.e. around nature.

We had a train to catch immediately after our shift was over on Friday the 18th of January and had to reach central railway station to catch our train which was scheduled for 9:00 p.m. As usual everyone was behind time, however, they were able to reach and catch the train just on time. Sateesh was literally going to miss the train but luckily he got into S1 bogie and ours was the S11. So he had to travel all way to bogie S1 to S11 and I know it must be an experience. Well, all the while when we were in the train we had a blast and were looking forward to this wonderful trip.

We reached Coimbatore next day on 19th January at 5:00 A.M. and then we started from there to visit our colleague Sampath’s house where we took bath and had our breakfast. This is a well in Sampath’s house where few of us were swimming and enjoying the natural beauty.
Also, in Sampath's house we saw EMU which is the largest bird native to Australia and the only extant member of the genus Dromaius. It is also the second-largest extant bird in the world by height, after its ratite relative, the ostrich. The soft-feathered, brown, flightless birds reach up to 2 m (6 ft) in height. The Emu is common over most of mainland Australia, although it avoids heavily populated areas, dense forest and arid areas. Emus can travel great distances at a fast, economical trot and, if necessary, can sprint at 50 km/h (30 ph) for some distance at a time. They are opportunistically nomadic and may travel long distances to find food; they feed on a variety of plants and insects.

The Emu subspecies that previously inhabited Tasmania became extinct after the European settlement of Australia in 1788; and the distribution of the mainland subspecies has been influenced by human activities. Once common on the east coast, Emu are now uncommon; by contrast, the development of agriculture and the provision of water for stock in the interior of the continent have increased the range of the Emu in arid regions. Emus are farmed for their meat, oil and leather. Its one egg will be worth Rs. 1,200.00.

After getting fresh, we all have a delicious breakfast which includes hot-hot idli, sambhar, kichadi, poori & masala, and lovely sweet Mysore Pak finally topped with Filter coffee
Afterwards, we headed to THE ISHA YOGA TEMPLE, founded under the aegis of Isha Foundation, is located on 150 acres of lush land at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains. Surrounded by thick forests, it is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere, a reserve forest with abundant wildlife. Created as a powerful center for inner growth, this popular destination attracts people from all parts of the world and is unique in its offering of all the four major paths of yoga – Gnana (knowledge), Karma (action), Kriya (energy), and Bhakthi (devotion). It was a lovely experience full of love and devotion for god.

Our next destination was then to top slip where we were going to PARIMBIKULAM Wildlife Sanctuary. As I said earlier that top slip is a home for various kinds of flora and fauna and this is an apt place to explore it.

There were various kinds of flowers and animals that one can look for. We were 21 people & we divided ourselves into 3 groups. One group of 10 went inside the dense forest whereas the others headed for the Watch Tower. We all went inside the dense forest and my god it was an experience. There was our group which was going deeper and deeper in the forest and two forest security guards accompanied us with long knifes. We stayed in panther’s den in the middle of forest where there was no electricity & water. We only had candles & solar lamp in that dark night to locate the things & have dinner. It was a great moment for us. Then we started from top slip to visit dam and other places on 20 January, which was also our last day to explore this great place, were we had come.

Next we visited Parambikulam Dam on Parambikulam River, one of four tributaries of the Chalakkudi River, originates in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, India. The Parambikulam Dam has been constructed across the river at Udumalaipettai, located in the Western Ghats of Kerala. This dam ranks number one in India as well as in the top ten dams in the world in terms of volume capacity. Then we headed next for the Trimurti Hills/ Temple /waterfall where we enjoyed a lot and every one stood under this magnanimous falls and took bath under the gigantic fall. Every one had a blast and no one wanted to go back. It was fun in real words.
In the evening while on our way back to station, we visited the Lord Ganesha Temple in Coimbatore city as well as went for last minute shopping. All of us were in the end able to bought Nendram's (Banana Chips) only. Then it was time to go back to the station because we had a train to catch again at 10:15 and this time no one wanted to be late. So we headed for dinner and after that we were again back in the train on our way back to Chennai. We reach Chennai the next day 21st January morning 6:30 a.m. This trip was more than a trip and we all enjoyed to the fullest. It was a great fun seeing the natural beauty and we enjoyed every bit of it.
