Guess what devotes with dreams of going abroad offer the deity at the Sidhdheshwer Chamatkarik Hanuman mandir in Ahmadabad ? More than 2000 devotes place their passports and visa applications at the feet of their lord , in the belief that he would influence the authorities. What else they call him -- yes " Visa Hanuman" !!

How did they welcome the new year this time ? G. Navkumar of Vellore ushered in 2008 by painting the flags of 102 countries on two rows of paper - each 185 feet long. He then inserted a new year greeting between the parallel rows. The Indian flag had a picture if a white dove, indicating peace. He plans to add flags of another 90 countries for a place in the Limca book of records

Cricket Controversies

Aussies won a another test match ----nothing new-- But this time there was lot of things that went against the way they did it-- For a team that is so strong in all its lines , there was no need to appeal for doubtful decisions-- Ponting picked up one from the turf and appealed -- The decision was not given in their favour and replays confirmed that there was not bat involved-- Gilchrist knew that Rahul Dravid had not edged -- it was from the Pad but won the appeal-- Ponting confirmed that Ganguly was out ( not his job )-- All these showed the Aussie in poor light- Well the umpiring was so poor and as usual the decisions went against India-- India had seven to eight decisions against them while the Aussie had one against them-- this is a trend that is happening in favour of Australia irrespective of the opposition- Steve Bucknor has never been kind to the Indians -- what else do you expect--
Anil Kumble was a man with lot of Dignity about him-- he was calm and assured and he reflected the cricket that India played- Although the series is lost , the team in the second test did very well-
Hope things turn around in the third test in Perth .

Polio Plus
The immunisation program for 2008 kicked off -- The Rotary is heavily involved with the Govt agencies to make this program a success-- The 2007 data was a disappointment as far as the number of cases that were reported-- One thought that Poliowas eradicated but not so-- More than seven hundred cases were reported from India although none from tamilnadu-- the govt has stepped up the efforts to do immunisation and see that this is controlled- I was happy that I was able to help out -- On Saturday , I visited two health centres alloted to our club and did the planning work-- Sunday we participated in the program with one of our health centres being in the news- 15 kids were selected to go to the CM's house to get immunised by the CM himself ( Thousand lights health centre ) the mothers were so dressed up !! The program went off well -- A good week end doing some work that benefitted others
