Cricket -- The great escape and leadership

India manage to draw the second test through a grinding second innings knock by Gautam Gambhir and resolute defending by others --
The question was whether we could have avoided getting in to the position that we were -- following on and loosing Sehwag to stroke ( rash ) play at the end of day three in the second innings. No -- this was not needed especially in view of the fact that we had won the first test and the morale was upbeat in the Indian team -- What then made this situation --
My view is that it was all about leadership -- Dhoni sat out the match due to a back strain and Sehwag took over-- Did he do things right ? May be for the first 40 minutes of day one of the match -- Rest ,the least said , the better -- having pushed NZ in to a 23/3 , the game was allowed to drift only due to poor leadership -- You cannot have a causal leader and that was what Sehwag was -- the body language is causal , no focus on the game drifting out , no strategy in place . There was no attack nor defence -- You had bowlers and the captain decided that they had to bowl at some time -- On top of this , there was lot of butter fingering -- Sehwag watched all the fun -- and when it came to batting , he responded with a typical twenty twenty assault in a five day test match - But that is Sehwag -- What one could do is not allow him a leadership role but allow him to be the batsmen he is -- putting him as a leader puts a bad perspective of the team and also questions his leadership that demands responsibility and accountability -- If you had been watching the match on day 3 , and when Sehwag got out playing a slog , the comments from the NZ commentators was anguishing -- The entire NZ team made a mockery of Sehwag and mind you , your leader cannot be someone who can be mocked at --and when you can see this on the big screen , it is definitely not a great sight to watch-
Luckily for Sehwag and India , the game was drawn and Sehwag's attitude will be forgotten -- Hopefully ,Dhoni should be back for the 3rd test and will provide the leadership that can be adored and copied -- the selectors need to seriously consider someone else as the vice captain ..

Formula one

The 2009 season kicked off with the Australian GP -- it had some shock results --- Honda racing team which went through turbulent times in the last six months due to the Honda company putting the team up for sale and leaving its race drivers in a limbo gave the knockout punch -- Taken over by Brawn GP racing , its drivers Jenson Button and Barrichelo finished one two in that order --Last year winner Lewis Hamilton climbed from 18th in qualifying to finish 3rd-- his own team said that Lewis can finish at the most tenth but Lewis out performed others to the third place and beat his team's predictions - Now talking of Brawn one should be aware of Ross Brawn ( Owner of Brawn GP ) and his background -- Brawn was the Principal of Honda for 2008 season and before that he took a year sabbatical in 2007--Prior to that he was the technical director at Ferrari and along with Jean Todt Principal and Rory Byrne Chief designer formed the dream team at Ferrari that gave Schmi the world titles till 2004 -- No wonder that he was able to get the car up to speed and was able to turn it around to a winning result -- there are some musings about the front flap and design not meeting the F1 guidelines for the Brawn car but the win has put this under the sun for time -- More will come out as the other teams find out more on the car -- the Ferraris failed to finish and will be hoping to improve their showing at the coming week end in Malaysia
