How to brew a great cup of Coffee
At our Rotary club , this month 's fellowship ( sip ) program had a unique topic and that was " how to brew a great cup of coffee " and the title was good enough to attract more number of Rotarians to this meeting -- We had a Rotarian from Yercaud club who runs a plantation come down to Chennai to talk about this topic-- There was a live Demo using different types of methods to make coffee ( espresso , our good old filters , the current coffee electric filter ) -- The Rotarian had great knowledge of making coffee and hence there was lot of discussions on the usage of coffee powder , type of coffee , Pbury, plantation A , Arabica ( supposed to be the best , chicory , water and so on -- It was also no surprise that most of the questions came from men flock -- Looks like in most of the homes , they were the ones who got up early and made coffee for their better half ( not me -- I drink Tea ) -- Everyone at the end of the program got 100 gms of coffee powder , measuring cup, teaspoons and table spoons ( there was a great discussion on trying to understand the difference between a table spoon and a tea spoon ) -- Also some data that this person shared showed light on the amount of coffee consumption by Indians -- very poor compared to the West --
Anyway here are some tips that may improve your family working relationship ( I noted this in overall interest but there is a brochure that I can share )
All so easy to achieve if you brew it right ( cannot agree more with this statement but depends on what we brew !! )
Needs : Any of the following - A filter Indian filter < Italian Espresso filter or Electric filter
Freshly roasted ground coffee ( use within a week of opening pack and NEVER reuse or extract second brew from the coffee powder )
Freshly boiled water ( the person explained how to check if the water is boiled )
Fresh milk . Do not reheat and reuse mils
Sugar to taste

The method for the perfect cup

1. Rinse the filter in hot water and dry before use
2. Store roasted beans and grind powder for daily use if possible ( we used to do this in my childhood days , but not sure where that machine went )- If not buy powder every week
3. Never use over boiled milk ( it spoils the taste )
4. Add milk and sugar separately
5. Serve Immediately after brewing, second choice is to retain decoction in a thermal flask
6. Life of Decoction is one hour, after which if you need you should brew a fresh cup

The Aussie Revival
End of the last series with South Sfrica , I had written indicating this was the start of the decline of Aussie dominance on Cricket -- Not to be -- With rookie players , Australia managed to get a series win over South Africa on South African soil --South Africa for its part looked a jaded side that was still celebrating its series win in Australia and not up to speed in taking the Aussies on - Credit to Ricky Ponting for his leadership in taking a new team and also winning -- the key was that Ponting played to win and did not go to draw the matches -- that was decisive in the series going his way - he was backed by his entire team and all the newcomers chipped in- Astonishing result !!
