I waited for the 3rd test results before writing this down -- Australia after being in the box seat in the first test allowed England to escape with a draw--and then paid a heavy price for letting England off the hook -- they lost the second test match being outplayed by the English and then just about managed to save the third test - With two more tests to go , England should be cock a hoop with what has happened so far --
Couple of big reasons as to why England has done extremely well so far
1. Andrew Flintoff -- He has been a monster to the Aussies -- He is not one of those hard working machine type -- he does things when motivated and the fact repeating the 2005 Ashes triumph must have motivated Freddie to outperform himself -- He made the big difference with the ball and bat -- he creates tension , fear ,ruthlessness when bowling and bats with freedom and power -- he does not do this all the time but so far in the three tests , he has been prominent
2. Aussie Bowling -- Gone are the days when teams need to worry about the Aussie attack -- With McGrath gone and Warne in the commentators box ,Lee injured the Aussie attack is a pale shadow of what it was -- the bowlers that they have today, at the best are mediocre and can just hang in there -- Mitchell Johnson who was was effective in the South Africa test series ,is fighting issues other than cricket - you can easily tell where Australia's problem is -- it is with their bowling..
The fourth and fifth test will be keenly fought but i believe England has the edge with Graham Onions and Jimmy Anderson supporting Flintoff admirably in the bolwing area-- Australia needs to find a bowling hero if it needs to change the trend
