The Ashes Test Series 2009 --- so far

I waited for the 3rd test results before writing this down -- Australia after being in the box seat in the first test allowed England to escape with a draw--and then paid a heavy price for letting England off the hook -- they lost the second test match being outplayed by the English and then just about managed to save the third test - With two more tests to go , England should be cock a hoop with what has happened so far --

Couple of big reasons as to why England has done extremely well so far

1. Andrew Flintoff -- He has been a monster to the Aussies -- He is not one of those hard working machine type -- he does things when motivated and the fact repeating the 2005 Ashes triumph must have motivated Freddie to outperform himself -- He made the big difference with the ball and bat -- he creates tension , fear ,ruthlessness when bowling and bats with freedom and power -- he does not do this all the time but so far in the three tests , he has been prominent

2. Aussie Bowling -- Gone are the days when teams need to worry about the Aussie attack -- With McGrath gone and Warne in the commentators box ,Lee injured the Aussie attack is a pale shadow of what it was -- the bowlers that they have today, at the best are mediocre and can just hang in there -- Mitchell Johnson who was was effective in the South Africa test series ,is fighting issues other than cricket - you can easily tell where Australia's problem is -- it is with their bowling..

The fourth and fifth test will be keenly fought but i believe England has the edge with Graham Onions and Jimmy Anderson supporting Flintoff admirably in the bolwing area-- Australia needs to find a bowling hero if it needs to change the trend

Sri- I completely agree with your assessment of teh Ashes. I did write a piece before the Ashes began, but my initial predictions seem to be going out of the window. The point you made about Flintoff performing when it is needed, is so very true. He has the ability to lift the crowd and the entire team.
