Medical Centre for the needy at Nerkundram
It was one of those things that you do that gives you immense satisfaction and lotof happiness
The medical centre was inaugurated on March 30th and covered by the Hindu on page 2 of the March 31 Chennai edition- It was true reflection of two families desire to share what they had to the benefit of the society at large- One had land and infrastructure that could make easy money and the other had money and a large heart to give
The place was owned by one of the Rotarian families and they had a small clinic -The place is just off the highway and is a real estate dealers dream in terms of its location and size. However the family was clear that it should be for the society as desired by its elder family members - Start a clinical lab was the mission.
Rotary had plans to create a lab as well - put in a X ray machine , a ECG, ultrasound and give it a pricing that will be at least one third of the cost that is being charged by other labs in the city today- - Rotary club of Madras South was looking for money and we did the Rota fest ( See Blog of Jan 14th ) which was a fund raising event- It fetched us money to buy only a X ray machine--
What we did not expect was a bonanza to come from the second family that I am referring - Our website was visited by the donor in Oct of 2007 and overtime we got connected and the donor visited us and was happy with our plans and the Rotary connection- She made up her mind to set aside funds- the donor is the wife of Late CS Narasiman of Swadeshimitran fame ( Tamil newspaper that came up during Independence times )- With her contribution we are well set to equip the lab and render good humanitarian service.- the contribution from this lady will be around 25 Lakhs INR through 2008.
What this has all done is that the family which owns the place wants to deploy more funds in to this , create a bigger building and so we are all set.
Over time I see this growing in to one of the finest Diagoinistic centres , making it affordable to people at large- Rotary will be the connecting factor and I plan to play a major role in getting this up and running with support of my fellow Rotarians.
The inauguration function was a success and it was nice way to spend the week end playing a part in the arrangements and being part of it- I invited one of our FBSC members with his family and they were pleased to attend and give thoughts ( keep guessing as to who this was !! )
If you guys can help in any way , do let me know
