January 12th Updates for the week
Rotary
The work with the girl students of the corporation school Saidapet continued--Earlier, we had completed our annual RYLA program where selected students undergo a two day program that covers their personality development in October 08 but there was demand for one program that was conducted on Health and Hygiene habits -- In the October program we covered around 60 girl students but there are around 400 in the same age group-- So we arranged just the health and hygiene sessions ( two sessions of 200 students per each session on Saturday Jan 10th )-- No men are allowed for this since it is a delicate subject. This program is needed at this age for any girl to help herself -- Rotary arranging the event and the girls asking for this session alone was not the reason for this topic to come to the blog--
The lady who ran this program for the students is a medical counsellor and she came all the way from Villipuram ( based out there ) to do this with no incentive or remuneration -- That I thought was outstanding -- to come to Chennai and talk to the girls -- It was inspiring for us to do more for the society with this kind of support that we get --
Chennai Sangamam
The annual event is back once again -- With more publicity and greater coordination ( visit www.chennaisangamam.com ) the event really gives lot of flavour for folk lore that we would not have seen ever before nor would go for it by paying -- With added food varieties , this event brings in lot of smiles to a common man on the road and also recognition to those artistes whose talent are dying by the day --
I like this one week for this reason -- the park where I do my usual walk is lit up -- there is music in the air , festive looks, this really brightens your day up--
Go watch these events at the nearest park with your children -- Wholesome entertainment at NO COST !! You can check the website for all the itinerary for various programs at various parks near your area-- Forget the politics on this event for the moment !!
Humour Club
I was stunned at the start -- I was not prepared to hear all that was said- Yes the Satyam events found its way to the Humour club as well -- After the prayer song , the convenor said "Asatayame Jayate " -- And then jokes were cracked on the promoters ( Raju Raju- Yes papa-Cheating us-No papa-Telling Lies-No papa-Open the balance sheet-HA HA HA !!! This is doing its rounds on email as well ) and on the accounting fraternity -- The speaker said the CA no longer say they are Chartered Accountants , they call them cooks -- Why ? They are busying cooking the books !!
And one more -- A US CPA was asked what 10,000 times 10 and the answer was 100,000 -- A British CIMA was asked the same question and the answer was consistent 100,000 -- Indian CA was asked and the answer was " what number you want , we will get it for you "
I was so uneasy in my seat but realised what a good time I had when other professions was ridiculed -- One CA climbed to the stage in the open joke session and put things at ease-- He said this is part of life and we need to deal with -- Thankfully after that there was no jokes on the Satyam deal --

Arvind swamy came with Minsara Kannavu ( movie ), while for Arcot it was Minsarame Kannavu !

If A=B and B=C , then A=C --Students want a another example
Teacher keeps water bottle on the table and explains , Bottle is on the table , table is on the floor and hence bottle is on the floor
Students now understand and one student is asked to explain what he understood -- he says "Sir - I love you , and You love your daughter and hence !!! -
The open joke session was fantastic and went on for nearly 90 minutes -- then we had two speakers speak , One of the speakers was Mr Bacikyam Ramaswamy who was the creator of Seetha Patti and Appuswamy Thatta and whose episodes used to feature in Kumudam weekly Tamil Magazine -- I do not read the weekly magazine anymore so not sure if they continue their humorous rivalry-- I did not stay back to listen to the second speaker Mr. Rajram who is a story writer as well --
Enough to get my batteries charged as well

The EPL
Manu my favourites have been having a hard time -- they were drawing matches , winning by slender margins , last minute goals , injury time goals and not very impressive at all this season --they had a great chance to clear this standing- out on Sunday as they met second placed Chelsea at home -- the rivalry between the clubs is well known-- Manu bounced in to lead at the stroke of halftime and then with clinical efficiency pumped in two more to resoundingly beat Chelsea 3- 0 - With two more games in hand then Liverpool ( leaders ) and Chelsea ( second placed ) , if Manu win both , that will see them at the top of the table as leaders--
